I am a new web developer trying my hand at web marketing to see if it's really as great as some people have told me it is. I'm going to give it my best shot.

eMarketing article I thought was of interest
Search engine marketing (SEM) is considered the fastest and most cost-effective way to drive traffic to your Web site. In fact, SEM is the first dollar spent of advertising budgets because it delivers the biggest return on your investment. In a nutshell, SEM and SEO equals more visitors by improving your search ranking. A higher ranking means more clicks and clicks are the point.

An Andrew Thomasen update!
Update on how things are going so far.
This is a very interesting topic I have gotten myself involved in. I never really realized how many different avenues online marketing can bring you down. The more I do and learn in this field, the more interesting this topic becomes. I am becoming more and more curious with each passing day while doing this. I wonder how far I, or anyone else for that matter can go? Is the sky really the limit? I guess time will tell.

What should my best plan of attack be in order to suceed.
You know how you are always seeing those ads where they tell you that you can earn $1000 dollars per week or more doing web marketing at home for only a few hours per day? Well, I would really love to know how they do it. I am doing everything I can to get as much traffic to my blog here as I can, but I'm not sure if I am doing enough or if I am doing the right things. Is there another way to gain more traffic than just linking to Facebook, twitter and Stumble Upon? Is it really feasible for me to be able to gain enough traffic here to achieve my goal? I guess I'll just have to be patient, keep doing what I have been doing, and see what happens.
Exploring new avenues in life.
Follow me on my self development/life changing journey. Let's see how far a little education and some hard work will get me. I will either succeed greatly, or, fail miserably. Really hoping it's the former. We will soon see.

About me
This is my first blog, and I thought it might be interesting to share how I’m trying to change and better my life by doing some re-training in a new career as a web developer. My name is Andrew Thomasen and I’m a 48 year old single father from Vancouver, BC, Canada. Like most, I’m trying to build a better life and future for my son, my very soon to be, new wife, and myself. For the most part, I’m making this career change because I had always felt, in my 25 years of shipping/receiving, like I really didn’t belong. I felt a little out of place in the Warehouse field. And to be honest, just tired of breaking my back, never being truly happy, and never getting ahead in life.
Something was missing in my life and I just wasn’t getting anywhere doing what I was doing. It took a lot of thinking and soul searching to finally decide what I hoped would be the best thing for me to do with the rest of my working life, and web design/web programming just seemed to be the best fit. Because I am a reasonably creative person, who loves to experiment with new and abstract ideas, I thought this would be a much more fun and fulfilling career choice. I wanted to share my journey with everyone, and hoped, everyone out there doing the same thing I’m doing would share there stories and experiences with me.
Like so many others that I know, I thought I could get away without having to do any formal training, but, some people like me learn much more effectively in a more structured environment, so, in the beginning of January 2010, my formal learning journey began, at The Vancouver College of Art and Design, and it continues to this day. I still have much to learn, but I’m really loving every single minute of it. It’s a lot of hard work, but it’s a lot of fun at the same time, and I never really realized how much there really is to learn to become, what I call, a “complete web developer”.
Lately I've been on a bit of a self development kick and thought it might be interesting to learn some web marketing as I now have a little more knowledge and experience in the web field now.

Me, Andrew Thomasen, trying my hand at online marketing
The advent of keyword advertising has had a tremendous effect on online advertising, Internet marketing, search engines, and Web sites that earn advertising revenue. Pay-per-click advertising therefore provides a critical topic for educators who hope to prepare students for professional careers in advertising and related areas. The Google Online Marketing Challenge offers an innovative way to achieve this goal in a unique hands-on context. With more than 8,000 participating students from 47 countries, the 2008 Challenge is, as far as the authors know, the largest in-class academic competition ever undertaken. The Challenge is also unique in its linkages among students, businesses, and the classroom. This article briefly reviews online marketing and Google's advertising platform.
